Meet Moises.
Moises is a current guest at our Young Adult Site. He is 22 and has been in Oregon all of his life. He found himself homeless after losing a job due to a bad head injury. He did some couch surfing, but he felt like a burden on the families he stayed with. When he heard about the Young Adult shelter, our C@P Outreach Team got him on the waiting list.
Moises has been at the Young Adult Site for a couple of months, with his primary goals being to find stable housing, keep applying for jobs, and eventually go back to school to become an automotive mechanic.
Moises has his HS diploma and said, “I really want to go back to school in the fall to work toward a degree where I could work with cars. I’m just gonna do what I can and see where it takes me.”
Moises loves anything to do with cars, going to the movies, checking in on his family and friends in town, and making people laugh. He appreciates being able to talk to support staff on site, values having caring adults to support him, and a room to chill in. He also loves the opportunities here to both have fun and get things done. He enjoys being in community with others his age, and if he sees someone who’s down he checks on them and wants to help them feel better.
Brianna Cartmell, Moises’ Case Manager, had this to say. “Moises has only been on site for a short time, but he is such a light. He has a great attitude about his situation and always puts a smile on peoples faces. He is focused on getting a job and finding a permanent place to stay for himself. You can often catch him on site, hooping it up on the basketball court or cracking jokes!”
We are rooting for you, Moises, and we are here by your side as you continue your journey to getting the career of your dreams!
