Kitchen Campaign
Church at the Park (C@P), in partnership with Catholic Community Services Oregon (CCS), is developing a 6,465 sq. ft. commercial kitchen at the Seymour Center adjacent to the CCS Family Shelter. This project will provide food security for low-income households and create training opportunities for 20 young adults (ages 18–24) per year experiencing homelessness in Marion County.
By developing a kitchen, C@P will provide employment and skill-building opportunities to the Young Adults living at the shelter. The Program Manager will play a vital role in managing training, distribution, staffing, and other day-to-day operational tasks. The Chef will focus on crafting menus, overseeing food preparation and cooking, and providing essential training to support the development of the young adult residents at the site.

The training program will be credentialed with Chemeketa Community College. Training will be coordinated in partnership with HYB Counseling and Baraka Workforce Development. Program teaching assistance will be coordinated with Salem-Keizer School District CTEC Behavioral Health, Human Services, Culinary Arts and Management Program students.

C@P will not only provide guests with a stable living situations at the shelter, but also support their long-term stability by offering employment, job development, and hands-on food service experience. We need your help to open this kitchen in October 2026!

ALEX
Young Adult Program
When the Young Adult Shelter first opened in 2023, Alex was one of the first people that our Outreach Team contacted. After moving in, he was shy and reserved and mostly kept to himself. Our staff tried to be present and available for Alex. Over time, he developed strong, trusting relationships with our staff. He was the first guest to find employment. Once he began working at McDonald's, staff noted that his self-confidence increased dramatically.

BRANDEN
Young Adult Program
Branden found himself homeless after his girlfriend was killed in a car accident. He is enrolled in the Young Adult program to support 18-24 year olds find and maintain stable housing and employment. One of Branden's goals is to become a firefighter and has applied to Chemeketa Community College for the fall term to start on his journey.

NICK
Young Adult Program
"To me, being a youth mentor isn't just being a person that shows the youth how to do something - it's someone who comes alongside them and encourages them and motivates them to do good. One thing I would want the community to know about the unsheltered community is that they are people just like your next door neighbor. They all have a story that is so strong and shows the powers in them."
